Suffolk Libraries is launching a new Falls Prevention Project in partnership with East Suffolk Council.
The project will offer Otago Strength and Balance classes in Kesgrave and Framlingham libraries and also online. The courses aim to improve participants’ balance, co-ordination, flexibility and mobility. The classes are part of Suffolk Libraries' wider Moving Minds programme to improve fitness and wellbeing across Suffolk.
The programme will run for 12 weeks from the first week of July with the exercises designed to help people feel more confident on their feet and to provide an opportunity to socialise with other members of the community with a shared goal to increase activity.
Bethany Fisher, Suffolk Libraries Wellbeing Project Lead, said:
“We’re delighted to be able to launch this new programme which builds on the success of our existing physical activity and wellbeing work. Thanks to the funding from East Suffolk Council, the Moving Minds: Falls Prevention project will support people in improving their strength and balance, in a safe, community focused environment. We hope those who choose to participate will see and feel not only the physical benefits of this activity, but notice a real difference to their confidence, independence and wellbeing.”
Strength and balance classes will be available in-person at Kesgrave Library and Framlingham Library, and online via Zoom, as follows:
The Falls Prevention classes will provide a safe and encouraging space for participants to work on their strength, balance and mobility. Each session is led by instructors qualified in the OTAGO Exercise Programme, ensuring participants receive professional guidance, support and instruction within classes. Anyone who meets the eligibility criteria can self-refer for classes on the East Suffolk Council website.
