Artist development

Our community arts programme promotes libraries as creative spaces, supports emerging talent, and engages new audiences bringing creativity to communities across Suffolk.

Suffolk Libraries is generously funded by Arts Council England. We were officially granted National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status in April 2018. We see libraries as a vital stepping-stone for the public to access great arts and culture in their communities.

Since April 2018, we have worked with over 5,000 young people between the ages of 11-25 in Suffolk across a variety of creative projects.

Using creativity as a catalyst for social change, the programme aims to:

  • Promote libraries as places where everyone can access great art and culture.
  • Support innovation and emerging talent, artistic development, championing artist-led practice.
  • Engage new audiences and broaden libraries' accessibility.
  • Provide library staff with opportunities to develop and support engagement with their communities.

Our creative residencies

Suffolk Libraries creative residencies provide time and space for community artists to develop ways of working and new ideas in collaboration with libraries and their communities.
