Falls Prevention

Take part in our strength and balance classes to feel more confident on your feet and prevent the risk of falling
1 in 3 people over the age of 65 experience a fall at least once a year (NHS Inform).
Suffolk Libraries’ Falls Prevention Project offers Otago Strength and Balance classes, aimed to improve participants’ balance, co-ordination, flexibility and mobility. These classes are free to attend and are designed for individuals aged 65 or over who have recently had a fall or feel unsteady on their feet.
The programme is delivered across 12 weeks and classes will take place at:
- Kesgrave Library: Mondays from 3.30PM to 4.45PM (45 minute class, with optional 30 mins for tea/coffee/social time)
- Framlingham Library: Wednesdays from 10AM to 11.15AM (45 minute class, with optional 30 mins for tea/coffee/social time)
- Online: Mondays from 10AM to 10.45AM
Benefits of taking part
Our Falls Prevention classes provide a safe and encouraging space for participants to work on their strength, balance and mobility. Each session is led by instructors qualified in the Otago Exercise Programme, ensuring participants receive professional guidance, support and instruction within classes.
These classes are not just about physical exercise - they’re about building a community where people can share experiences, progress together and feel a sense of achievement in a welcoming setting. Other benefits include:
- Improve strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, mobility, reducing risk of falls and injuries they can cause
- Improve mood and wellbeing, and reduce social isolation with opportunities to socialise with other members of the community
- Classes also aim to enhance overall ability to perform everyday tasks with greater ease, stamina and confidence.
