London-based blues/skiffle band The Rigmarollers will be performing at the John Peel Centre at 11 Market Place in Stowmarket in a joint fundraising gig between the John Peel Centre and the Friends of Stowmarket Library.

The Rigmarollers are described as ‘a trio with a massive sound, laying vocals, harmonica, guitar and sousaphone over an irresistible backbeat.’ Together they blast out an original musical mix, bringing the party everywhere they play.

Daniel Harvey, Director of Fundraising, Outreach and Volunteering at Suffolk Libraries, said:

“We love putting on live music events in our libraries, especially when showcasing great bands from further afield like The Rigmarollers. They play a kind off upbeat bluesy skiffle with a carnival feel. They’re great fun and really talented, and we know people will love them.”

The Rigmarollers sell out gigs across London and the UK. Their festival CV includes Sidmouth Jazz and Blues, Fire in the Mountain, Ealing Blues, The Idler, Bimble Bandada, Purbeck Valley, Upton Blues, Leek Blues and Americana, among many others. They can count Cerys Matthews amongst their fans after she played their song Sycamore Street on her BBC Radio 2 blues show back in December last year.

Harmonica virtuoso Ed Hopwood learnt his craft in acclaimed UK blues bands. Guitarist Julian Marshall has travelled across America and Europe to play with blues and trad musicians. Ewan Penkey is rightly lauded and in demand for his mastery of the sousaphone and bass. Together they blast out an original musical mix, bringing the party everywhere they play.

Tickets for the gig cost £15 each and can be purchased online. Alternatively, a limited number of tickets are available for purchase in person at the library. Doors open at 7.30pm with the live music starting at 8pm. There will be a reasonably priced bar selling beer, cider, wine and soft drinks.
