Beccles Library moves back home!

Beccles Library will be moving back to its home in Byburgate in early December.

The library has been operating from a temporary location in the town’s old HSBC building since September to enable substantial building work to be carried out.

Despite the challenges of the recent storms, the work is successfully nearing completion and the library building is due to reopen on Friday 8 December. The improvement work has involved replacing the entire roof and all external windows and doors in the main public library area.

The library will be open on Monday 4 December in the HSBC building for the final time and will then close for three days to allow for staff to move back to the main building to then reopen on Friday 8 December.

Sharon Chapman, Beccles Library Manager, said:

“We’d like to thank all our customers for their patience during the work and look forward to seeing everyone back at Beccles Library. The work is a vital part of maintaining the building which will ultimately benefit all our customers. We’re grateful to Suffolk County Council, Concertus, Abacus Builders and Vertas for carrying out the work.”

Any loans due back during the three-day closure will have their return dates extended and no overdue fines will be issued.
