Review: Venom by Bex Hogan
Venom, by Bex Hogan
Venom is an action packed, pirate-esqe adventure that will grip you from beginning to end!
This was such a fun and gripping read. Venom is the epic second instalment in the Isles of Storm and Sorrow series that follows Marianne who has grown up at sea as a part of a legendary pirate gang. She is destined to be the Viper but has others plans for her life. Unlike her father she does not want to plunder and pillage, instead she wants to protect the islands and discover who she truly is.
Marianne is such a strong and fierce female protagonist who continues to grow and dominate as the series unfurls. All the characters in this series are so unique and fully formed and you cannot help to root for Marianne and her rebellious crew. Her friendships with Grace and Bronn are so authentic and demonstrate how you can choose your own family and that true friends are just as important as family.
This story is full of twists and turns which really kept me hooked and in Venom there is a further exploration of the islands which was wonderful to read and imagine. The elements of magic are so intriguing and was a really interesting element to add to this already action packed story.
I was warned before picking up this story that I would be left craving more and wow I really need the third instalment in this series right now!
Both Venom and Viper are brilliant gripping fantasies that I would recommend to all readers. Typically I am not a huge fan of fantasy stories but this series is truly an exception. These are wonderful stories and will capture the imagination of all readers. I cannot wait to see how this series ends!
