Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Kingdom of the Wicked is the first book in a thrilling new series from Kerri Maniscalco, author of Stalking Jack the Ripper and much like her gripping debut crime series this fantasy is filled with her compelling mixture of loveable characters and an action-packed plot that will leave you longing for more!

The story follows two sisters Emilia and Vittoria who are witches living in the real world. One night Vittoria goes missing and soon after Emilia finds the body of her twin, destroyed at the hands of dark magic. Emilia is determined to avenge her sister’s death even if it takes the summoning of the Princes of Hell to find out what really happened. But when the Wicked are around trouble is soon to follow…

I have been excited for this book since its release so to finally have it in my hands was such an exciting moment. Following Emilia’s quest for answers surrounding her sister’s mysterious death, it’s easy to become into the story and it feels like you are accompanying Emilia through the twist and turns of the plot.

The continuing family thread and atmosphere is a highlight, Emilia’s relationship with her nonna was beautifully depicted and from the prologue we can tell the close nature of the family which establishes the characters and their relationships so well.

The mystery aspect propelled the action further and really kept me guessing where the story was going to end up. Also if you are a pasta fiend like myself this tale is definitely for you but fair warning, the descriptions of the food in the restaurant will make your mouth water and definitely make you crave creamy-carby-goodness. Kingdom of the Wicked is an epic introduction to Maniscalco’s new series and I am so excited to see where this journey takes us next!

A must read for all fans of YA fantasy.
