Suffolk Libraries gets behind the Festival of Suffolk 2022

Suffolk Libraries will be getting involved in the Festival of Suffolk 2022 ahead of the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend.

We’re launching My Suffolk Story – a writing competition for any children aged 5-11. Each entry should focus on ‘What you love about the outdoors in Suffolk’. This could be the wonderful countryside, the beach, your local park, street or anywhere outside.

Submissions can be in the form of either a written story or piece of writing or even a comic strip or storyboard. All entries should be no longer than a single side of an A4 page and can be handwritten or submitted electronically.

There will be a winner and two runners up from each key stage group who will each receive a prize. More information will be available soon but if you or your child is interested in taking part you can email mysuffolkstory@suffolklibraries.co.uk for more information.

Suffolk Libraries is also fully behind BBC Radio Suffolk’s ‘Clean for the Queen’ event to tidy up Suffolk ahead of the Platinum Jubilee. Clean for the Queen will take place from Friday 29 April to Monday 2 May. If you fancy joining in and giving your community a tidy-up, email mark.murphy@bbc.co.uk and let’s get Suffolk sparkling and clean for the Queen.

Suffolk Libraries will also be getting involved in ‘The Queen’s Canopy’. Our arts team will be working with schools and young people across Suffolk to create an environmental ‘call to action’. From supporting wildlife to promoting sustainability, if your school would like to get involved in a Suffolk-wide environmental revolution, you can book a session with the Suffolk Libraries team by emailing arts@suffolklibraries.co.uk.

James Powell, Suffolk Libraries Marketing and Communications Manager, said:

“Suffolk Libraries is delighted to be getting behind the Festival of Suffolk which is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and highlight everything our wonderful county has to offer ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I’d encourage everyone to check out the Festival of Suffolk website to see what’s going on. Suffolk Libraries will be marking its ten-year anniversary in August so I’m sure it’ll be a big summer of celebration!”
