Bridget Jones's Baby, The Magnificent Seven and Ben-Hur

Bridget Jones’s Baby

“Sharon Maguire directs this third instalment of the romantic comedy series based on the characters created by Helen Fielding. Renée Zellweger reprises her role as Bridget Jones, the quirky forty-something who is learning to embrace adulthood. Following her break up with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), Bridget decides to focus on her career as a top news producer while also attempting to enjoy the single life with friends. Her love life takes another turn when she meets suave American Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey), who helps her out after getting into a spot of bother at a music festival. With a new relationship flourishing and everything seemingly under control, it’s not long before there’s a hitch - she discovers she’s pregnant. Unsure if the father is long-term love interest Darcy, or newcomer Qwant, Bridget is yet again faced with making some awkward and ultimately life-changing decisions. The cast also includes Sally Phillips, Shirley Henderson and Emma Thompson.”

The Magnificent Seven

“Antoine Fuqua directs this modern take on the classic 1960s Western. With the small town of Rose Creek under siege from the evil, corrupt businessman Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the residents seek the help of bounty hunter Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington) to fight and help save their town. Joined by six other loyal men - gambler Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), shooter Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), tracker Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), assassin Billy Rocks (Byung-hun Lee), warrior Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier) and outlaw Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) - Chisolm sets a plan in motion to defend the lives of the good people of Rose Creek.”

Deepwater Horizon

“Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson star in this action drama based on real events. When a technical failure causes Gulf of Mexico drilling rig Deepwater Horizon to experience a sudden, devastating blow out, electrician Mike Williams (Wahlberg) and the rest of the crew face a desperate fight to survive. As burning oil causes fires to spread throughout the deck, Williams risks his life to help his fellow crew as they battle through the wreckage in a valiant attempt to find an escape. With the tragedy unfolding live on TV, Mike’s wife Felicia (Hudson) is left to look on helplessly, unsure if she will see her husband again. The cast also includes Kurt Russell, John Malkovich and Gina Rodriguez.”

Kubo and the Two Strings

“Children’s animated adventure directed by Travis Knight. The story follows Kubo (voice of Art Parkinson), a kind-hearted young boy caring for his mother in a peaceful Japanese seaside town. Kubo’s relatively sheltered life changes forever when he accidentally summons an evil spirit from the past, which storms his home to enforce an age-old vendetta. Forced to flee, Kubo teams up with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) to begin an epic quest to save his family and unravel the mystery surrounding his father, a fallen samurai master. With the help of his new companions, Kubo is able to master the untold power behind his mother’s mystical stringed instrument and his father’s legendary suit of armour. Now, with the magic of Kubo’s family driving them forward, the trio do battle against ferocious monsters and vengeful gods in order to fulfil their heroic destinies.”

Don’t Breathe

“Jane Levy and Daniel Zovatto star in this horror by film-maker Fede Alvarez. Rocky (Levy) dreams of getting away from her mother but lacks the funds to escape. When her ex-boyfriend Money (Zovatto) tells her of a wealthy blind man (Stephen Lang) who lives on his own, they, along with their friend Alex (Dylan Minnette), set out a plan to rob him of his fortune. As they enter his house under the cover of darkness, they soon discover that the blind man is not such an easy target…”

Ben-Hur

“Jack Huston stars in the title role of this historical epic adapted from Lew Wallace’s novel. Jewish Prince Judah Ben-Hur is falsely imprisoned and enslaved by the Romans after being betrayed by his best friend Messala (Toby Kebbell). After enduring five years in the galleys of a Roman slave ship, Ben-Hur manages to escape when the vessel he is bound to is attacked and sunk in an ambush. Soon after, he is taken in by Arab sheik Ilderim (Morgan Freeman), who convinces him that the best way to get his revenge is to defeat Messala in a grand chariot race. With his training complete, Ben-Hur returns to face his former friend and the might of the Roman Empire in a brutal race to the death. The cast also includes Rodrigo Santoro, Nazanin Boniadi and Pilou Asbæk.”
