The Mystery at Rake Hall is her first novel and begins a superb new historical crime series set in post-war Oxford in which university don C.S. Lewis finds himself an unlikely detective solving a mystery surrounding a hostel for unmarried mothers. Maureen Paton’s own mother lived at the real-life Rake Hall in Oxford while pregnant with her. This personal story inspired Maureen to write the novel.
