Setting up PressReader on your device

Access thousands of free online newspapers and magazines with these easy steps to using our PressReader service.

Looking to read free magazines and newspapers in your browser? Visit the PressReader website.

PressReader allows you to read or download full digital editions of key newspaper and magazine titles in any language from around the world. 

This service is available through a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer. The free PressReader app is available to download for Android and iOS.  

Setting up PressReader

On a Computer

  1. Go to the PressReader website and click ‘Sign In’ in the top right-hand corner

  2. Select the blue ‘Library and Group’ button in the pop-up box that appears

  3. Search for ‘Suffolk Libraries’ in the search box that appears, then click on ‘Library - Suffolk Libraries’

  4. Enter your library card number and click ‘Sign In’

  5. This service will now be available to use.

Your session will expire after 30 days. After 30 days, you can continue to use PressReader for free by reactivating your account:

  1. If you aren’t already logged in, sign in using your email address and password

  2. Click your name in the top right-hand corner, then click ‘My Account’

  3. Under the ‘Library or Group’ section of ‘Social and Linked Networks’, click ‘Unlink Account’

  4. Follow stops 3 and 4 above.

On an Apple or Android tablet or smartphone

  1. Download and install the PressReader app from the App Store or Google Play

  2. Open the app

  3. Press the ‘Accounts’ button on the bottom right, then press ‘Sign in’.

  4. Press the orange library card icon.

  5. Search for ‘Suffolk Libraries’ in the search box that appears, then press ‘Library - Suffolk Libraries’

  6. Enter your library card number and press ‘Sign In’

  7. Fill in the fields in the ‘New User’ box and press ‘Agree’

  8. This service will now be available to use.

Your session will expire after 30 days. After 30 days, you can continue to use PressReader for free by reactivating your account:

  1. Press the ‘Accounts’ button on the bottom right of the screen and select your account

  2. Press ‘Library and Group’, then ‘Unlink Account’

  3. Repeat steps 5 and 6 above.

Reading and downloading digital magazines with PressReader

Note: the ‘download’ function provides offline access to titles on smartphones and tablets where you have already installed the app (see instructions above)

On a Computer

  1. Browse titles on the homepage or by clicking the three horizontal lines on the top left-hand corner of the page, then selecting ‘Publications’ and narrowing the selection of titles using the left-hand bar that appears. Alternatively, you can find a title using the search box in the top right-hand corner.

  2. Click on a title to read it

  3. Once you’ve opened a title, to download it to read offline in the app later on, click on the three vertical dots in the top right-hand corner and click ‘Download’

  4. Click the checkbox that appears, then click ‘Done’

  5. The title will download to your smartphone or tablet. When the download is complete, open the PressReader app, press the ‘downloaded’ button at the bottom of the screen and select the title to read it offline.

On a smartphone or tablet

  1. Browse titles on the homepage or by using the ‘Categories’, ‘Countries’, ‘Languages’ and ‘Types’ buttons at the top of the screen. Alternatively, you can find a title using the search box at the top of the screen.

  2. Press the title you wish to read, then press ‘Open’ and agree to download the title.

  3. The title will download onto your device and automatically open. If you want to read it later, press the ‘downloaded’ button at the bottom of the main app screen and select the title.
