Featherbed Tales – our digital story sharing service

Stomp, stomp, stomp, go the elephants' feet! Listen... can you hear the sound of the beat?
The Elephant's Feet copyright of Caroline M England

Anyone with a Suffolk Libraries account can now record themselves reading a beautifully illustrated story or short rhymes to share with their loved ones.

Children can also read stories for a grandparent or other family member who hasn’t seen them in a long time.

Featherbed Tales have expanded their collection to include 32 recordable greetings cards celebrating every occasion from Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Eid and birthdays, two books of poetry suitable for older children, five rhymes and seven new story books.

The whole collection is beautifully illustrated with characters inspired by Caroline’s love of wildlife and the outdoors.

How to get started

All you need to do to get started is:

  1. Create your account by visiting the Featherbed Tales site

  2. Enter your Suffolk Libraries card number

  3. Sign up with your email and password

  4. Select the story or nursery rhyme you wish to record

  5. Click 'Record' for each page of the story or rhyme - keep an eye out for a pop-up asking to use your microphone

  6. Share with others by entering their email address when your story is complete - you're all done!

Once you’re happy with the results, you can share a link by email so that family members can enjoy the experience together from anywhere in the world.

You don’t need any special equipment, just a computer or device with a microphone. You can redo a page if you make a mistake.
