Pride in the libraries! Suffolk Libraries at Suffolk Pride 2022

Suffolk Libraries, the charity that runs the library service in Suffolk, will be attending the Suffolk Pride celebrations in Ipswich this month.

Suffolk Pride 2022 will be taking place at the Ipswich Waterfront from 12pm onwards on Saturday 18 June, and will feature performance stages, discussion panels and more.

The Suffolk Libraries stall will include a book display with inclusive books for children and young adults, a children’s play area, information on using library services, a chance to share your favourite LGBTQIA+ titles and more.

Krystal Vittles, Deputy CEO of Suffolk Libraries said:

“Suffolk Libraries is delighted to be supporting Suffolk Pride this year. All of our libraries are inclusive, safe spaces for everyone. We believe in giving everyone a voice and are proud to champion acceptance and diversity across the library service.”

Several libraries are getting involved by hosting Pride-themed events, open to people of all ages and identities. People are welcome to come along and make posters, banners, flags and more to show off at the Pride parade.

These are the confirmed events so far:

Newmarket Library is also hosting a 'Read a Rainbow' children's reading challenge. Children are encouraged to read a book for each colour of the Pride flag and make their own rainbow bookmarks or wristbands throughout the month of June.

We are also sharing a selection of Pride-themed books for children, teens and young adults, available to borrow on our catalogue.
