Rocking the library and shaking the shelves! Suffolk Libraries announces live music gig to celebrate Suffolk Libraries Day

Suffolk Libraries Day fundraising gig

Suffolk Libraries has announced a night of great rock 'n' roll music at Ipswich County Library in March!

2022 marks our ten-year anniversary and to celebrate, two of the greatest Rock 'N' Roll bands in Suffolk are performing a charity gig at Ipswich County Library on Saturday 12 March, which is also Suffolk Libraries Day.

Suffolk Libraries Day is the charity’s major annual fundraiser and a chance to celebrate the impact of Suffolk Libraries in the community.

The two acts performing at the event will be JS & the Lockerbillies, who will rock your socks off with a collection of cult classics, shaking show-stoppers and rocking rollers from the golden age of jiving, whilst The Phil Jackson Rock 'N' Roll Band, led by Phil Jackson's incredible vocals and dazzlingly authentic piano, will have the audience jiving from the first number to the last!

Doors open at 7.30PM with the live music starting at 8PM. There will be a cash-only bar selling beer, cider, wine and soft drinks. Tickets are £11.50 and can be bought online.

This will be the first live music event at the library since 2018 with previous gigs being incredibly successful, with acts including Police Dog Hogan and Primo Nelson performing to hundreds of people.

Suffolk Libraries Day will also feature a series of online author events and fun family events in libraries. The line-up for the author events includes bestselling authors Sarah Vaughan, William Shaw and Joy Ellis with full details and booking information available on our website. Other library events will be confirmed nearer the time.

Suffolk Libraries is keen to hear from any businesses interested in supporting the Suffolk Libraries Day Book Journey which will take in all 44 libraries. The charity is challenging corporate partners to get a book across the county using all sorts of weird and wonderful modes of transport – and all in the name of a great cause!

Bruce Leeke, Chief Executive of Suffolk Libraries, said:

“Our charity has huge reach and impact. Suffolk Libraries Day is all about celebrating what we do at the heart of communities and at the same time raising awareness of the amazing work we fund every year. The pandemic has had a significant impact on our regular income, so we really need people to support Suffolk Libraries Day to help us continue to help tens of thousands across the county.

Fundraising events like this are a fantastic way of bringing people together to have fun, safe in the knowledge that any money generated will go towards supporting people across Suffolk.”
