Lowestoft Library joins the Wild Mural Trail

Lowestoft Library has joined Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Mural Trail with a huge grey heron now proudly displayed on the side of the building.

The heron is the seventh in a series of murals painted by street artist ATM in the town on prominent buildings. The murals all depict species which live on the nearby Carlton Marshes nature reserve to highlight the importance of protecting local wildlife.

The recently unveiled heron mural joins a marsh harrier, barn owl, kingfisher, north hawker dragonfly, bittern and water vole which can be found around Lowestoft.

Jo Wilde, Manager of Lowestoft Library, said:

“We’re delighted to be part of this special trail and it’s yet another reason to visit the library. Many people don’t realise we have such a special nature reserve on our doorstep and the wonderful murals help local people to appreciate its wildlife whilst walking through the town.”

The mural trail project has been managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Community Fundraising Manager, Michael Strand. Michael added:

“It’s great to see this giant beautiful heron in the heart of Lowestoft reminding everyone that nature is part of our everyday life. I can't thank Lowestoft Library, CJB Scaffolding and ATM enough.”

The Carlton Marshes reserve is close to Oulton Broad South railway station and is just a short distance away from the bustling town of Lowestoft.

You can find out more about the trail on the Suffolk Wildlife Trust website and access a special walking route to help you discover all seven murals and the Carlton Marshes reserve.
