Ixworth Library will be changing their opening hours from November following a consultation that took place in May.
The new opening hours were introduced to allow for more consistency in when the library would be open and will enable the library to meet the needs of parents that are dropping children off at school.
The new opening hours will be:
Monday - Closed
Tuesday - 9:00 – 1:00pm, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Wednesday - 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Thursday - 9:00am – 1:00pm, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Friday - 9:00am – 1:00pm, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Saturday - 10:00am – 1:00pm
Sunday - Closed
These changes will take effect from 1 November and have been approved by Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Libraries Board.
The consultation over the opening hours, which took place in May of this year, consisted of a public survey that was accessible to customers and asked whether the new hours would benefit or be detrimental to them visiting the library. They could also select that the change would have no impact on them at all.
The survey results showed:
66% of those surveyed felt the new hours would be beneficial
Only 6% of those surveyed claimed it would be detrimental
28% of survey-takers said that it would have no impact on their use of the library
The library also received several positive comments about the new hours and Ixworth Library's role in the pandemic.
"The staff at Ixworth library have been a valuable lifeline during the pandemic. They have gone out of their way to help by choosing suitable books for my mother who is in a nursing home. Always friendly, helpful and positive. Thank you."
"New hours make sense for everybody and would like to thank the lovely librarians for all their help during these difficult times and all their hard work."
"It will be so much better as I will be able to bring the children after school. Also, being open on Wednesdays will be brilliant too!"
