Haverhill Library relaunches photography competition for fundraising calendar

Haverhill Library is relaunching its photography competition for its 2023 fundraising calendar and is appealing for contributions to create a calendar encapsulating community life in Haverhill.

The theme is ‘Scenes in and around Haverhill’, and is open to any budding photographers who want to get involved.

Proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go to the Friends of Haverhill Library, a voluntary group that raises money to help, support and improve facilities at Haverhill Library.

Entrants can submit up to four photos depicting scenes from all around Haverhill and one picture per entrant will be shortlisted for the competition.

Emma Maguire, Library & Information Advisor at Haverhill Library, said:

"Following the success of our 2022 wall calendar we are pleased to run the photo competition again for 2023. The 2023 calendars will be available early November. The theme of the competition is again 'Scenes in and around Haverhill'."

The deadline for the competition is midday on Monday 3 October. Photos must be submitted to Entrants must include their name, address and phone number in their submissions, along with a description of the photo and when and where it was taken.

Photos will be independently judged and 25 will be chosen to appear in the 2023 calendar, with the overall winner on the front cover.

Competition rules:

  • Entrants can submit up to 4 photos

  • Only one photo per entrant will be shortlisted

  • Photos can be taken day or night, inside or outdoors, but they must be taken in or around Haverhill

  • The submission deadline is midday on Monday 3 October and any submissions received after this deadline will not be considered

  • The photo must be taken by the entrant, and they must own the copyright

  • Entrants agree to allow their photos to be cropped if necessary

  • All entrants give permission for their photos to be featured in future publicity, including on the Suffolk Libraries website and social media as well as Haverhill Library social media

  • By submitting the photo, entrants agree to allow it to be included in the Friends of Haverhill Library 2023 calendar if selected

  • Entrants who submit a photo that is selected for inclusion in the calendar agree not to use the selected photo elsewhere before the end of 2023, other than for publishing the calendar

  • Photos can be taken on any device, including mobile phones

  • Photos should be landscape and must have a minimum size of 2MB
