We stock fiction and non fiction books for adults and children, films, CDs, in various Indic languages. Most of the stock is held in Ipswich County Library but can be reserved for pickup in any Suffolk library. Dual language Bookstart packs are available for children from libraries in Suffolk.

Choose from the following languages to see what we have in stock: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu. A few magazines (Femina in English, Des Pardes in Punjabi and Bangla Post in Bengali) are available for reading in the library.  The old issues of Femina and Des Pardes can be borrowed on your library card. 

Events & Activities:  

We run various activities for the members of Indic communities and other ethnic groups:

  • Chat and Chill is a group for women who speak English as an additional language. The group meets every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00noon in Ipswich County library. Each session has a varying programme of activities including reading books in English, sharing experiences, crafts and artwork, keep fit sessions and learning new skills
  • Internet Taster Sessions If you know how to use the keyboard and mouse and have some knowledge of computers, then Internet Taster Sessions will help you to set up a new email account and get on with internet browsing
  • Library tours – If you want to know more about your local library and need assistance in getting familiar with the library building then contact us for a guided library tour

Annual Events

Libraries in Suffolk organise events to celebrate diversity in Ipswich and engage various ethnic communities in the county.  Each year Ipswich County Library organises:

  • Multi Cultural Day in June. Includes musical and dance performances, activities, games and informative displays by different ethnic community groups
  • World Music Festival in October. Includes musical performances from music traditions from around the world
